Turn Reporting Responsibility into Reporting Confidence

PeopleSoft reporting knowledge is often concentrated among a small number of experienced users. When someone leaves, changes roles, or hands responsibility back to the business, other users may inherit queries they do not feel prepared to modify, validate, or rebuild.

Aspire Consulting helps close that gap with practical, hands-on PeopleSoft Query training. The goal is not simply to explain the tool. It is to help users understand how an accurate query is built, practice the skills themselves, and apply those skills to the reporting work their organization needs.

Why This Training Works

A 100% hands-on learning format.

Users learn by working through demonstrations, guided exercises, and their own query challenges.

Built in your PeopleSoft environment.

Familiar data makes each concept easier to understand and apply.

Designed around your company.

Multiple departments can attend, with topics and practice problems adjusted to their responsibilities.

Confidence in the data.

Students learn how to build accurate queries, validate their results, and feel confident that they are working with the right information.

Capability that stays with the organization.

The class helps teams respond to turnover, role changes, and the need to return to more reporting responsibility to users.

Useful outcomes, not just course completion.

Students leave with reference materials, reinforced skills, and working queries they can continue using.

  • Validate query results

DAY 2

Apply Advanced Techniques

  • Group criteria
  • Build subqueries
  • Create basic and SQL expressions

DAY 3

Connect It to Real Work

Morning

Continue advanced topics and reinforce the techniques through hands-on exercises.

Afternoon

Apply the full curriculum to queries, reporting challenges, and department specific examples brought by participants.

Foundational Curriculum

The foundational portion gives users a solid understanding of the Query tool so they can work with existing queries, build simple joins, and validate that the data returned is accurate.

  • Review of the nine Query tabs: Records, Query, Expressions, Prompts, Fields, Criteria, Having, View SQL, and Run
  • In-depth use of the Query, Fields, and Criteria tabs
  • Creating and modifying single-value, in-list, and range prompts
  • Making prompt lookups work
  • Aggregate functions
  • Finding the right record to query
  • Basic joins, including standard and hierarchy joins
  • Saving, favoriting, copying, deleting, moving, and renaming queries

Advanced Curriculum

The advanced portion builds on existing experience or the foundation established on Day 1. Students learn how to use advanced functions accurately and connect them to more complex reporting requirements.

  • Grouping criteria
  • Subqueries: In List, Not In List, Exists, Not Exists, and correlated subqueries
  • Basic and SQL-based expressions
  • Advanced table joins, including left outer joins using traditional and non-traditional methods
  • Unions
  • Scheduling queries

What Participants Receive

  • A detailed course book covering the class topics
  • A list of commonly used records and tables across PeopleSoft Financials, HCM, and Supply Chain
  • Guided exercises that reinforce each major topic
  • Dedicated time to work through student-provided queries and reporting challenges
  • Practical query outputs participants can continue using and refining after class

Who It Is For

  • PeopleSoft users who need to modify or build queries as part of their role
  • Functional teams taking on reporting responsibilities previously handled by IT or a small group of power users
  • Organizations responding to turnover, succession needs, or shifting ownership of reporting work
  • Experienced users who want a stronger foundation before applying advanced Query techniques
  • Teams that want training aligned to their own data, terminology, and business questions

Flexibility and Delivery

Designed for the Team You Have and the Skills You Need

No two PeopleSoft teams have the same reporting responsibilities. Aspire Consulting can adjust the emphasis, examples, and practice problems around each group’s experience, functional areas, pain points, and desired outcomes. A range of class sizes can be accommodated, and training may be delivered on-site or virtually, subject to scheduling details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a basic or advanced class?

The three-day format combines both. Day 1 establishes the foundation, Day 2 and part of Day 3 cover advanced topics, and the final afternoon is dedicated to applying the full curriculum to student examples.

Do participants work in their PeopleSoft environment?

Yes. Using the client’s environment makes the records, data, and business context familiar and helps participants connect each topic to their daily work.

Can we customize the curriculum?

Yes. The emphasis and examples can be adjusted around the group’s current skill level, reporting responsibilities, functional areas, and pain points.

Can participants bring their own queries?

Yes. Students are encouraged to bring queries they need to modify, queries they have struggled to build, and reporting questions they want to solve.

Can multiple departments attend?

Yes. The class is booked by one company, but participants may come from different departments. Aspire can incorporate practice problems that reflect their different reporting responsibilities.

What does the training cost

Contact Charles Stegeman for current pricing and to discuss the class design that best fits your organization.

What should participants know before class?

Users do not need advanced Query expertise. The course begins with foundational topics and builds toward more advanced functions. Specific prerequisites should be confirmed when the class is scoped.

Is training available virtually or on-site?

Aspire offers on-site and virtual PeopleSoft training. Confirm the preferred format and availability during scheduling.

What materials are included?

Participants receive a detailed course book and a list of commonly used records and tables for PeopleSoft Financials, HCM, and Supply Chain.

Will participants leave with working queries?

The class includes dedicated time to apply the topics to real examples. Participants can leave with working queries they can continue using, subject to their organization’s normal review, security, and production standards.
